At this time John and I have decided to adopt an older unknown child--- keyword older. We will most likely not be adopting a child listed on Reece's Rainbow like we did with Alex and Dennis-- this time we are venturing out into the unknown. More like an adventure that we can't wait to see where God takes us. There is a region or two that we would love to adopt from, but only time will tell if that is where we will end up.
We are planning on taking our beautiful Ukrainian born daughter Rachel (age 14) who is jumping out of her seat with excitement at the mere thought of traveling back to her birth country. Bless her heart--- she wants to start knitting scarves like Julia did last time so that she can help earn her own plane ticket. So, she wanted me to ask if any of you are in need of scarves, blankets or anything knitted for that matter. Julia has offered to crochet too! :)
We are nearly done with our homestudy update-- who knew a new social worker could be such a blessing) and would love for us to be able to travel this summer. That is ideal since the kids are out of school-- but we will have to just wait and see.
Though you might think that we are fairly familiar with what to expect and how the process goes, we are pretty certain there will be many surprises along the way. Aren't there always in the world of adoption?

I am so excited for you guys!! I have been following your journey for some time now. I always enjoy your pictures and stories. I am delighted that you started this blog. I will enjoy following along with you as I did when you went to get Alex. Those are 12 (soon 13) very lucky kids!! Sending good thoughts and good, good luck from San Diego, CA! -Kate
I've followed your blog for about 3 months now and you're family is great! And tell Rachel that i'd love to have a scarf.
OK - I have to ask - why Ukraine (rather than my beloved Russia)?
And....I can't wait to follow the journey, however, your background is a bit too dark for the type - at least on my computer.
God bless! Wish it were me.
I cannot wait to follow your journey! How does a blind referal like this work? Do you not know who the child is until you are in country? Do you meet several children before deciding? Are you thinking of a boy or a girl? I am interested to learn how this all works :)
I didn't know if you were looking for ideas so ignore me if you aren't! Here's a family who has adopted 5 teens from Ukraine and works with orphanages there to help place older kids.
They're an amazing family and they might seem familiar because they remind me of your family!

I knew you would be traveling this summer, I already told you that! LOL!! Can't wait to follow along. I would love to buy a scarf or two from Rachel. That is awesome she gets to go.
If you are still open to countries, there is a wonderful girl in Serbia who really needs a family. Once at the reece's rainbow site....click waiting children.....other angels.....click older children...scroll down to Maria. She is 8 and seemed very sweet to me, while we were there adopting. We do not have the funds right now to adopt, or we would add her to our family. Serbia has an easy dossier, one trip for about 2 1/2-3 weeks. A cheaper program. Best wishes with whoever you all choose. Have great week.

How exciting! Following your blog has really encouraged our family to consder adoption when our son is in a better place and we can focus on more than just him!
Your family is wonderful!

all very exciting!!! we are hoping to go back to Ptown for two little girls there(6 and 7) who used to live with Ben. my new blog for them is ourgirlsbyheart.blogspot.com
Unexpected is the expected in adoption :) Praying for you!
Wow Congrats on the deciding to adopt again! I love it when people see that children are a blessing, not a curse. I'm not sure how this works but I'd like to order some things (wash cloths, blankets scraves, etc.) My e-mail address is
pikchick95@yahoo.com
Again Congratulations and God's blessings on your family.

I'm all for a scarf. That would be fantastic and I'd love to help her get her plane ticket. I'm sure she is very excited. And I can't wait to follow this journey. I'm sure it will be wonderful.
I am just so excited for you guys and for Rachel's getting to go with you. God has and is blessing you guys with an amazing family! Thank you so much for shining brightly as an example to others like me who someday want to have a large family as well :)
So excited for you guys! Who knows, maybe we'll end up in Ukraine at the same time :) We are praying fervently about a specific region, but will leave it in God's hands because He already knows where our child is! How awesome is that!?!
I know of several needy older kids right aside the Kyiv area in an orphanage with an EXCELLENT director who is VERY supportive of adoptions. Email me if you want more information.... bdnp3827@yahoo.com
How exciting! I am so happy for your family, and to hear Rachel will be able to travel back to UA. What a wonderful thing for all of you to experience together.
