I think I found tickets that will work for us. They are the most reasonably priced (yet still ridiculous) with only one stop leaving just enough time to change flights. Woo-hoo, our facilitator should give us the heads up tomorrow about going ahead and purchasing them. I can't wait to cross that off my to-do list.
Tomorrow I am going to see about ordering new bills and doing some light packing.
I still can't believe that we are leaving in less than three weeks.
If we get the chance, we hope to meet up with a few families in Kiev. What a blessing that would be.

You must be anxious to go but can't imagine what your "to do" list must be like.
You might want to get on that money ordering thing now, especially if you are getting clean, fresh, crisp bills...like everyone thinks you MUST have. The banks have to order the new money from the treasury and our bank wanted a few weeks notice. That being said, it's not a huge deal and if you can get like new bills, free of tears, ink, etc...they will take them there. A few hints are to iron your bills flat thereby making them look new, give your facilitator the older bills first (they don't mind and know the in's and outs of trading money), and trade only the best bills at the kiosks. You can ask friends and family to help get fresh new bills before you go and trade with them, too.
Also, if you are using a safe deposit box to store your money before you go (like we did), don't tell the bank. It is illegal to take money out of circulation.

I figured out about a week before our trip that we could actually change money here in the US and get a better deal than in country. We had NO fees since we were exchanging so much. You just have to contact the money exchange at the airport ahead of time so they have enough on hand. Ours brought the money to the exchange center closest to where we were checking in for our flights so we didn't have to go get it.
We also figured out that Golden Rule travel has absolutely the best prices on tickets hands down. Apparently adoption travel qualified for humanitarian airfare (what missionaries qualify for) under special contracts with the airlines. We were able to get last minute tickets to EE for around $850 per person including fees/taxes etc. If you have to change your flights it's a flat $50 change fee per person. We also had better rates on luggage. Hope this helps!
