From Moments Before We Left...

till now--- I have finally posted pictures!

Before we left back On Sunday night, June 13, we played Racko. It was nice getting in some last minute quality time with the kids before we left.

Going on Mission Reed Adoption is Rachel, Mom, Dad, and Caleb. All are up for the task. :)

Our friend Paul dropped us off at the airport.

Heading into LAX. We packed light-- which made for easy traveling.

The proud parents to be!
Me trying sushi for the first time. I wish I could say that I loved it-- because people who love shushi seem so exotic and sophisticated to me. Oh well... I guess I will always be a PB and J kind of gal. But I do look a little exotic with the flower in my hair-- right? :)

Awww, Daddy and daughter sharing a soda. How sweet.

Here we are in the Borispol airport. Notice how empty the baggage claim area was. Our bags were already there when we got to the claim area.
The weather was very nice in Kiev compared to rainy Germany. Here we are loading up our bags to drive to our apartment.

Hi Kiev!

This is right outside our apartment door in Kiev.

Here is Jennifer Dove and I sitting in TGI Fridays. She is even more amazing in real life! William, her son is such a cutie. John enjoyed getting to know Jenn's husband Zack.

Here is our group shot!

This picture was taken from our bedroom window on the fourth floor.

So many trees-- green and lush--- heavenly. It feels so good to be back in Ukraine.
We had our SDA appointment this morning--- stay tuned to hear all about it!

yay you made it safely!
How is Caleb liking Ukraine, and does Rachel remember things, does it seem familiar to her - the language and food etc?
I *DO* like sushi in that it's a good healthy option for lunch but yeah, something wet and cold is never going to be a food I'm excited about. Nothing comforting in that!

2 QUESTIONS:

1) how old was Rachel when she left ukraine?

2) could she do a guest blog sometime during your trip like Julia did?

I'm glad you all made it safe to Ukraine. How is Rachel? Did she react well being back home? Does she remember how to speak? Your Rachel is always in my thought.
Have a nice stay you all
Hugs

I don't like sushi either, which is basically illegal in NYC! lol. I don't like the texture and I don't like my foods to touch (yeah... I sound like a small child)

But sushi is such a big part of NYC life that our preschool had a book called "my first sushi book" Hilarious.

Can't wait to hear about your SDA appt!!!!!!

Oh, these pics bring back such memories. When we went, we were so scared and out of place (and it was so cold). It is so refreshing to see you so comfortable with the journey.

Looks beautiful, and I wish I was in that picture with you and Jenn! Since I'm a more recent follower of your blog, I don't know how Rachel came to be a part of your family. And is Caleb a bio child? Maybe you could fill me (and other clueless readers) in? Can't wait to hear about your SDA appointment!

So beautiful! Love the pics - you are always so great at updating your blog - we do appreciate it! I so wish that I was there with you all. How fun that everyone was able to meet up. Jacob and I ate there on our last day in Kiev but it was just the two of us. Still, a very sweet memory. Praying for you!!!

Sushi can be an acquired taste, so many people *don't* like it the first time they try it (and many people never like it). That said, be sure to try non-airport sushi too! When sushi is made well, it is exponentially better than the prepackaged, pre-prepared stuff often found in airports and convenience stores. Next time, you may enjoy an avocado roll - it's less strong than other types of sushi because it has no fish, and the creaminess of the avocado balances out the other flavors.

But hey, now you can at least say you've tried it! And besides - you are exotic and sophisticated. After all, you've spent many weeks living in Ukraine and eating Ukrainian food. That's something many people will never do!
